Wound is defined as the disruption of the cellular and anatomic continuity of a tissue. Wound may be produced by physical, chemical, thermal, microbial or immunological insult to the tissues. Wounds generally termed as physical injuries that result in an opening or breaking of the skin. Wounds are the result of injuries to the skin that disrupt the other soft tissue. Healing of a wound is a complex and protracted process of tissue repair and remodeling in response to injury. Various plant products have been used in treatment of wounds over the years. Wound healing herbal extracts promote blood clotting, fight infection, and accelerate the healing of wounds. Phytoconstituents derived from plants need to be identified and screened for antimicrobial activity for management of wounds. Most of these patients tend to face a tremendous problem when they get an infected wound. Wound-healing agents derived from plants need to be identified and formulated for treatment and management of wounds. Various herbal products have been used in management and treatment of wounds over the years. The in vitro assays are useful, quick, and relatively inexpensive. Therefore the aim of treating a wound is to either shorten the time required for healing or to minimize the undesired consequences.
